Weather Wreaking Havoc Once Again

News 12's Nathan Harrington is just back from those slick roads out there. He joins us live with a look at North Mankato's Lookout Drive.Nathan, I imagine it's tough sledding out there.Yes, Lisa... that would be a good way to put it.Like Mitch just said... the snow that we've gotten so far is a very dry, light snow.Of course, Police, Sheriff's Deputies and the State Patrol are all busy with this winter storm. Here's the latest numbers we have from the Minnesota State Patrol's Mankato Headquarters. From 6:00 until about 11:15 this morning Troopers have responded to 37 vehicles in the ditch, Eight property damage crashes... and one accident that caused a personal injury. That's Mankato East Administrators cautioning students to be careful as they drive away from school this morning. These snowy conditions prompted the Mankato school district to dismiss classes about an hour ago.Of course, Mankato is just one of many across southern Minnesota and Northern Iowa to close up early because of the weather. On the highways: it's tough all over. Like we said: Dozens of cars like this one in the ditch. The Department of Transportation is advising no unnecessary travel in the area. And the city of Mankato took the step of closing Parkway Avenue at the hill.Area snowplow drivers are busy as well... Not a good day for the driver of this plow.It was sidelined with a blown transmission in the heat of battle.Again to recap, here's the latest:The Department of Transportation is advising no unnecessary travel in south Central and southwestern Minnesota. The City of Mankato has closed the Parkway Avenue Hill. And right now, there's been more than three dozen cars reported in the ditch since 6:00 this morning. As of right now, there's no reports of MnDOT closing any roads... but if the wind picks up like forecasters are predicting... that could easily change. So, Lisa... the message is pretty clear: stay home if you can.Reporting Live in North Mankato, Nathan Harrington, News 12.
